The Lyrics to Motherjane's Ssh Listen
For many who have been long time fans you have come to know me over the past year as Eva the Irish American Gypsy that interacts with you, and oversees the official motherjane sites ,for those that have yet to meet I look forward to meeting you as it only together that we can bring these great guys the attention they deserve both in India and Internationally. I was thinking of the past year with motherjane and thought it might be interesting to give you my personal thoughts on my journey with motherjane but to do this I need to go back the beginning…
I have been a long time promoter and close friend of Sanjeev T and his band Rainbow Bridge working with him over the years has introduced me to the music scene in India and I have worked with a few of the other artists there in much more lower key level than I currently do for Sanjeev and Motherjane . Sanjeev asked me to do him a favor and contact Suraj of Motherjane for some info he required, in doing so I found the Motherjane myspace site and the 1st thing that greeted was the taka taka taka of Chasing the Sun and my immediate thought is ohhh this is something quite different and wanted to know more about the music, but what intrigued me me most was here is this talented band and they have this myspace page that really in no way would capture the essence of them to International visitors , it had lil activity was filled with bands and beautiful woman but no real people which is so key to me when promoting a band. I made contact with Suraj to get Sanjeev the information he required, a few emails were exchanged and he mentioned they were in soon launching a new album called Maktub and could I help get them shows in USA as it is the 1st thing bands think of when they hear the term Promoter , I explained that wasn’t my field of expertise and not what I prefer to focus on, I think he really didn’t quite understand what I did , but he kept in touch and I did more research and asked for a copy of the lyrics and really connected with what I was reading and feeling and thought what a shame these guys aren’t doing a better representing themselves online . I continued to communicate with Suraj and something just told me take a chance on this band and I Suraj and I agreed he would turn over full control of the myspace site to me and I would promote the band from it and they would support me with what I needed,, an article Suraj wrote for myspace mentioning my work for the band, the new revamped site went live Nov. 8th and so it began…
Just like in any relationship it takes time to know each other and it was no different than with me and Motherjane, I at first represented them to the International fan base with images much darker than I would use now, I have come to know they are so positive and filled with light, images on myspace are how people interact with people and I love that aspect and take one or two sentences from one of their songs and attach it to an image that I feel speaks to it , Suraj has always been great about allowing me to take his lyrics and giving them a different feel when aligned with an image, one of the most popular image with over 100,000 hits is lyrics from the song Broken with an angel image . I use angels often use to promote the band angels speak to everyone and it was part of the initial intrigue the band mentioned in many articles they had a guardian angel that watched over them.
This is getting quite lengthy so let me try to skip to the highlights, as myspace became successful and with support of Motherjane’s incredible photographer Harris Backer supplying me incredible visuals and and videos to showcase the band ,we added the facebook group and facebook music page , the page is now our most successful site. and now there are several more, the band is ranked Number one in all genres in all of India on Reverbnation and we have over 12,844 registered online fans as today and the 58 countries are on our myspace site alone .
Some of my most memorable highlights the promo for the Jack Daniels Award that Suraj was named best Vocalist and John Best Drummer, My screaming in excitement into the phone in poor Suraj’s ear when the band was named best Indie Rock Band of the year in Asia for AVIMA , I had not even told him or the band I nominated them as I had no idea the outcome and didn’t dare get their hopes up, but fans in India around the globe rallied voted insanely for the band and the Judges behind AVIMA chose them , The Avima hosted by the incredible people at Voize.My and it has opened many doors for the band and myself also as I am now part of the a coalition in Asia to help not only India but the Asian Indie Music Scene overall and I have gotten to meet so many people in Asia who feel as I do, special acknowledgements to Siva who tirelessly works to unite and showcase Asian Indie artists and Silvie who was key bringing the band to Indonesia.
Having Myspace contact us and tell us they wanted our page to be the showcase to show Indian Artists how to use myspace was very personally rewarding, the band launched the Myspace Music Page and headlined 1st every secret show that have become famous around the world , sadly myspace India has lost funding but I still think it is one of the best sites to showcase Indian bands Internationally.The list keeps going the concert with Mr. Big in Indonesia and meeting all the wonderful fans there.
It really is all about the fans I oversee the sites but I can’t do it without you every one of you is Motherjane’s promoters you telling just one person is huge, I always say Motherjane’s success is India’s Success , I want to give this band International attention they so deserve and you growing the fan bases really helps me in this endeavor. I have so many of you on my personal facebook page and I must say you are simply incredible your lil words of encouragement for the work I do means so much .
I am so excited for 2010 and where we can all take this ! There is so much more I want to say but will end it here, with a special thanks to the Suraj who nurtures and encourages my creative spirit, John who I love having deep conversations with, Clyde who always makes me smile, and Deepu and Baiju who have trusted this once unknown person to represent their image around the globe. I must also thank Abhijit the tour manager who I work very closely with , his dedication inspires me, Sunny who is in the background maintaining the main site he is very talented graphic artist though very humble he doesn’t like me to draw attention to his work , Harris as mentioned above who’s images speak to fans who have never seen the band, and Hari motherjane’s number one fan !
I love working with this band and now I am exclusive to them and my other love Sanjeev T and Rainbow Bridge due to the time and effort it takes , I am sorry to say no to all the bands that contact me for help but do know in my heart of heart that the success of Motherjane is good for all of India and will bring more attention to all of India’s Indie Music Scene . My time for the bands I promote is donated I do hope to someday make a living doing what I love but I think is important for people I do this work because I believe in what I doing and it is not for profit though I am rewarded in many ways some greater than money.
Most Important to Note nothing is possible without the Award winning Music that connects us all , it is why I do what I do and why you are their fans love and support them, it is a plus for all of us they are such down to earth warm human beings
